Organise, the digital platform helping employees fight for better working conditions, raised $750,000 in funding at the beginning of July.
The London-based startup, founded in 2017, has helped bring workers together to campaign for changes at a number of major firms, including McDonald’s, Amazon, and Uber.
As the COVID-19 pandemic and fears of global recession continue to threaten jobs everywhere, Organise says it has seen an unprecedented uptick in demand: spiking from 90,000 to more than 700,000 members between April and August.
“We’ve seen an explosion in demand over recent months and we’re proud of the impact our members have had,” said cofounder Nat Whalley, who previously ran campaigns for Save the Children and 38 Degrees.
“We cannot allow this crisis to erode hard-won rights for our workforce. We must provide the technology and tools they need to come together and affect change. This funding will allow us to keep up with demand and introduce new ways of supporting our members.”
The funding round saw backing from the likes of Ada Ventures, Ascension Ventures, Form Ventures, and RLC Ventures.
“It’s not often that we come across companies that are tackling a societal issue with technology in a completely novel way. When it does happen, we get very interested,” said Check Warner, partner at Ada Ventures.
“[Organise is] operating in a space where there are very few other solutions offered and serving a customer group that has largely been overlooked and ignored; low paid employees at large companies who lack a voice and rights that they’re legally entitled to.”
